I've been running The PDA Guy at its own domain for a few years now. It's where I shoot the breeze about those funky little devices that nerds hid in their pockets.

Today, PDAs are everywhere - restaurants, parking inspectors, boardrooms. Today, they're called smartphones and everyone's got one. I'll tell you what's hot, what's new and give you lowdown on what's coming.

HTC becoming a new RIM?

HTC's launching their own email service, HTCMail, in Europe. Paired with the HTC TyTN II that will be launched in partnership with leading operator partners across Europe, it'll feature high speed HSDPA connectivity and in-built GPS. HTCmail will be a fully hosted service based on Microsoft Hosted Exchange. HTCmail will offer real-time access to up to five different email accounts instantly delivered to a mobile device through Outlook 2007.

This is a great, innovative service that, I think, signals that HTC is looking to differentiate itself from other OEMs. Over the last 12 months we've seen HTC make the shift from faceless manufacturer to significant brand presence. Many of the devices that O2, Dopod and others have been selling for the last few years have come from this ten year old Taiwanese powerhouse.
