Windows Mobile 6.1 Officially Announced
Microsoft has announced plans to rollout an updated version of its Windows Mobile platform. The new software – Windows Mobile 6.1 – includes e-mail, Web-access, instant messaging, traffic updates, photo capabilities, music and the ability to edit documents. Microsoft indicates the updated software is scheduled to be available in late (northern) spring of 2008.
This really is Microsoft's tilt at beginning the catch up with the iPhone interface and to modernise a platform that, until now, really hasn't seen a substantial update in some time. The changes from Pocket PC 2003 to Windows Mobile 5 and 6 have, in my view, been incremental. It's time for a real update and this seems to be the start of it.
